Playing To Celebrate Milestones
There are many significant milestones in the lives of your people, some are inherently spiritual and some are not. These milestones are important to your individual group members, so they should be important to the other members of the group who are doing life with them.
Birthday
Everyone has a birthday! Whether it's a simple text message, a batch of brownies brought to your next group gathering, or a full-blown party, there are a variety of ways to celebrate the people you're doing life with.
Birth Or Adoption Of A Child
Adding a member of the family can bring about a variety of emotions and new responsibilities. Making time to celebrate new life while also providing assistance when needed can be a helpful way to experience this milestone together.
Bible
While there certainly doesn't need to be a major deal made about this, especially if children have any place in the life of your group, the moment someone receives their first Bible can be a huge deal. When someone first receives the word of God, they now have access to a lifelong tool that will influence them forever.
Baptism
Making a public declaration of faith, confessing Jesus as both Savior and Lord, and accepting salvation, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (and accompanying spiritual gifts), and the cleansing of sins merits a celebration that should be unmatched in the life of your group.
Graduation
High school and college graduations mark a significant time in a person's life (and the lives of their parents, mentors, and friends). Show up for these significant moments! Celebrate the wins, sit with parents in the grief of changing relationships, and encourage the graduates to continue walking with Jesus.
Marriage
Besides following Jesus, marriage is the most significant relationship any person can have. The commitment made in marriage should be honored and celebrated. Make engaging in the weddings of your people (or of their kids and grandkids) a priority. Invest in the strengthening of marriages more than just the wedding day.
New House
When a group member moves a house, this likely represents lots of changes. Getting more space for their family, downsizing, moving school districts, getting new neighbors, starting new routines, and generally adjusting to a new way of life. Enjoy their new space with them, help them with projects, and pray over the space together.
Funeral
Death will eventually touch your group, so be prepared to serve, support, grieve, and celebrate a life well lived. This could be group members directly, but often this is their family members. Remembering the anniversary of their loved ones' death, sending them an encouraging text, and saying a prayer for them cill go a long way.
